Akulap viewer and analysis tool for .wav files

This version of Akulap is designed for importing and analyzing sound recording (.wav/MP3) files.

In addition to the classic analyzes of a sound level meter (SPL, third-octave analysis), complex analyzes e.g. extensive psychoacoustic evaluations (loudness DIN45631/A1, sharpness DIN45692, tonality (DIN45681)) are available. FFT and spectrograms are of course included. The psychoacoustic evaluations are optional.

The handling is very easy: You select a .wav file. This is automatically converted into the Akulap internal format.

You can select an area with the mouse and evaluate it according to various parameters.

Akulap can import special information from .wav files so that the evaluations are directly calibrated.

The following devices are supported

  • Svantek sound level meter
  • NTI XL2
  • Audio Precision APX

 Supported formats:

  • .wav 16/24/32 bit and float
  • mp3
  • Sampling rates 1Hz to 1Mhz.

This version of Akulap cannot make recordings itself, but it is specialized in evaluating existing .wav files.

  • The following evaluations are included:
  • Parameters according to DIN61672, i.e. LEQ,MAX, PEAK,TAKTMAX,LAFTEQ
  • Weighting Z/A/C
  • Parameter broadband or per 1/3 octave band
  • high-resolution FFT spectra with overlap spectrogram
  • 3D representation
  • Export a section as a .wav file
  • listening to a section

As an option

  • Evaluation of tonality DIN45681 and IEC 61400-11 Ed.3 (wind turbines)
  • Evaluation of time-varying loudness DIN45631/A1
  • AM/FM Modulation

Calibration:

A .wav file initially contains no calibration data. It is therefore not possible to compute an absolute level reference.

Some manufacturers (see above) include this calibration data directly in the .wav file. In the simplest case, the calibration data are imported directly with the .wav file. However, you can also specify the calibration factor manually or load a second .wav file (calibration file) with a calibration tone.

Notes for NTI XL2 and NTI XL3:

In the basic version, these devices support compressed .wav files. only. These are 4Bit ADPCM files with a sample rate of 24Khz.
These files have a reduced bandwidth of only 12kHz. Akulap can read and evaluate this format directly. However, frequencies above 12kHz are not included.

The XL2 and XL3 devices can also write uncompressed .wav files, but this requires addition modules/extensions from NTI.

For some applications, e.g. DIN45680, which evaluate the low frequency range, the ADPCM files are sufficient.
